
Getting Your IR Lamps Up to Speed on SACMI Rotary Machines
When you’re running SACMI rotary blow molding machines, everything happens fast. Like, really fast. You’ve only got a few milliseconds to get that PET preform heated just right. If your IR lamps are sluggish when you start up, or if they take too long to hit the right temperature, you’re going to see it in the bottles. You’ll get those annoying cold spots or walls that are way too thin in some places and thick in others. It’s a headache nobody wants. The trick to fast response To keep up with the rhythm of a SACMI machine, we have to fight “thermal inertia.” Basically, we want the heat to go into the plastic, not get trapped in the lamp. We use a specific kind of high-grade quartz glass. The walls are just the right thickness so the IR radiation shoots straight through to the PET. We also tweaked the filament diameter and voltage. The goal? The second that relay clicks, the lamp hits peak wattage. No lagging. No waiting. Fitting them in We made these as drop-in replacements. No one wants to spend their afternoon messing with custom adapters, so we stuck with standard R7s or SK15 connectors. They just plug in and work. We push the wattage high to get that intense heat density needed to soften the preform quickly. But there’s a catch. Pushing that much power through a short tube puts a lot of stress on the ends of the lamp. To stop the electrodes from just burning out, we added reinforced seals. It keeps things stable even when you’re pushing the limits. The trade-off you need to know about Here’s the thing: these high-output lamps are fast, but they throw off a lot of ambient heat. If your cooling blowers are dusty or just aren’t powerful enough, the oven temperature will start to creep up. Before you know it, you’re overheating the PET, which leads to that cloudy haze or deformed bottles. Keep your airflow clear. It’s the only way to balance that lightning-fast lamp response with a stable temperature.
