Putting an infrared heater in a bathroom is basically like putting electronics in a sauna. You’ve got steam everywhere and the occasional splash of water, which is a recipe for a short circuit if you aren’t careful. You can’t just throw any lamp in there and hope for the best. You need a setup that actually keeps the water out. The deal with IP65 You’ll see “IP65” on the spec sheets. In plain English, that just means the thing is sealed tight enough that dust can’t get in and water jets won’t leak through. We make this happen by using high-temp silicone gaskets and tempered glass. It creates a solid barrier. Why does that matter? Because if moisture sneaks in and hits the electrical terminals, your RCD is going to trip. Or, even worse, the metal frame of the heater could become live. Not exactly the vibe you want while stepping out of the shower. Getting the insulation right The connection points are usually where things go south. Standard sockets just aren’t built for humid air. To fix that, we use ceramic insulators and heavy-duty potting compounds to keep the live wires far away from the metal frame. We also swap out basic wires for fiberglass-braided silicone cables. These are great because they don’t crack or peel after being heated up and cooled down a thousand times. And please, don’t skip the grounding. Bond that chassis to the building’s earth ground. It’s your safety net. If a seal fails or a part burns out, the breaker trips instantly instead of turning the heater into a hazard. The trade-offs (the honest part) Here’s the catch: waterproofing makes things bulky. An IP65 housing takes up more space and kills the airflow. Since the lamp is sealed in a box, heat builds up inside. This is where a lot of people mess up—they pick a wattage that’s too high for the enclosure. If you cram too much power into a tight, sealed space, you’ll fry the filament way faster than you should. Keep it balanced. Match your heat output to what the box can actually handle, and your heater will actually last.
