
Keeping your Nissei or Krones running without breaking the bank
If you’re running a Nissei ASB 70DP or a Krones Contiform, you already know the drill. You’re constantly swapping out lamps. It’s just part of the job. But when the OEM prices start climbing, it gets frustrating. You want to save some money, but you can’t afford to mess up your preforms. Here’s the thing: you need a replacement that actually fits and heats the same way the original did. No guesswork. The nitty-gritty on heat and fit These machines live and die by short-wave infrared lamps. If the wattage is even slightly off, you’re in trouble. You’ll either end up with a base that’s too cold or a neck that’s scorched. It’s a balancing act. And the size? It has to be spot on. Down to the millimeter. If a tube is a fraction too long, it won’t seat in the socket. Too short, and you’re losing heating surface. Neither is a good look when you’re trying to hit production targets. Why the materials matter We use high-purity quartz glass because these lamps take a beating. They heat up and cool down fast, and that thermal shock can crack cheap glass. Most of these units use R7s or Sk15 connectors. We make sure the contact points are tight. Why? Because loose connections cause arcing, and arcing is the fastest way to burn out a lamp. Some of our versions even have a special coating that pushes the heat into the plastic instead of heating up the machine frame. It’s just smarter. A few tips for the shop floor Swapping these in is pretty easy. They fit right into your current setup and plug straight into your controllers. But before you swap the whole bank, do me a favor: check your cooling blowers. If they’re choked with dust, your new lamps are going to run way too hot. That’s a shortcut to a premature burnout. Give your ventilation a quick once-over first. It’ll make sure your new tubes actually last as long as they’re supposed to.
